Blissful Bliss Buzzifying Smoothie

5 Days Healing with Everyday Superfoods Challenge begins this Sunday, April 18th followed by 3 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse on April 23rd. Get your tutorials and follow me on Twitter for group coaching throughout the challenge. Let's Spring clean from the inside out together!

I drink water. Loads and loads and loads of water. You'd think I would have washed away by now. Thankfully I have the body requirement of cholesterol in my skin to keep me from spilling out. I do like to mix up my water intake sometimes. Variety is the spice of life right? Sometimes I will make herbal teas too. Oh, I know. I am living on the edge now. A little kombucha cocktail is also a fave bevvy (more on that soon).

Sometimes, though, I want more than water. That's right. On this sweet Thursday, right before we kick off our 8 day Spring cleaning healthy eating extravaganza with 5 Days Haling with Everyday Superfoods followed right behind with a 3 Days Green Smoothie Cleanse, I am telling you that often I drink more than water. Sometimes I like a glass of wine. Now I am not going to pretend that I drink wine because it is in any way a responsible means for supporting heart health or boosting my antioxidant levels. I don't subscribe to that letter of the day. I drink it 'cause I love it. I drink it once or twice a month, a glass or two, because I enjoy it.

Last weekend, when the weather went all wonkily warm for early April, the boy and I decided to do a picnic in the park for dinner and I wanted some wine. Wine was not available as it was Good Friday and so I concocted another sweet elixir. I used fresh as fresh could be fruits that I had kicking about, threw in some super foods and then a wee itty splash of vodka to give it a good little warming in the belly kick.  Why do I have vodka in the house? For making medicinal tinctures of course, and for my ice-cream-maker-free coconut milk ice cream. Now obviously, the vodka in this recipe is purely optional.

This sweet treat is so easy to whip up and so delicious that I would recommend making up a  little mix like this (without the booze) and keeping it stored in a glass bottle or jar in your fridge for a few days as a quick and easy smoothie base, already mixed. Even better, freeze it in individual ice cube trays and you will never be without fresh fruit/veggies for your smoothies. Yes, you can buy frozen smoothie block, but when they are so easy to make yourself, why would you?

Now if you have hopped on the green smoothie train, you know that having a blend that is just fruit is seriously like sipping on liquid sugar. This girl is sweet!

Mmm...looks yummy! Where did you get your glass bottle? Was it something you got locally, or ordered it?

I found these awesome bottles at Ikea. Of course. I want to hate it, but I just can't.
  2. Haha, great minds must think alike! I woke up this morning after two days of green smoothies, and thought: "I'm having a treat! I'll use a banana! (*gasp*!)" It is super sweet, and a lovely morning treat. Plus, I'm out of kale ;) This mix looks great, thanks!

Hey Meghan, just wondering... do you have some sort of water filter in your place or do you just drink tap? My husband and I are debating if some sort of either faucet filter or undersink water filter is necessary as we drink tons of water too (and neither one of us wants to use any of the various plastic, refillable water systems). We also drink tons of water and are just curious what "system" you use :)

I have a reverse osmosis system in the new kitchen. It has been a lot of trouble. Before that I had carbon blocker filters from Aquasmart which were fantastic and a very economical solution... almost wish I'd kept it simple with that. I would definitely opt for filtered of some kind of straight tap, but would do tap before bottled or brita.
  4. I just got some kombucha starters! Can't wait to see what you have coming for that.

Dear Meghan, You said you would drink tap before bottled water or brita. Could you explain why? I have brita filters at home. Are they bad? Thank you. Please shed some light..

They don't do a whole lot. It is a very small filter and rarely are the changed or cleaned out as often as they should be. I am also not a big fan of drinking water that sits around in plastic. It's a very personal choice and I am sure you could find much to argue what I have said. I do my best to balance what is best for my health and the environmental health and the choices are not always that easy.
