Hydration Station Smoothie + Green Power Cancer Kicker Juice

Love sweet lover, are you missing our on our cooking class funEating For Awesome Energy is up next this Sunday! Don't forget, we're kicking Fall off right with our 21 Days To Health Challenge. Play along!

What a week it has been. I have been doing my very, very best to abide the rules I wrote myself with my 21 Days To Health, program. My most favourite challenge of course is on day 3 when we must get ourselves to bed early. There are three things I love to bits that help me sleep like a baby.

I have been loving these things even more as I spent just three nights last weekend on the other side of the country, 3 time zones away in Vancouver and then came back right in the swing of things. And you know what? No jet lag! Not even for one night. It was amazing.
I digress, as today I sit in the audience at TedX Toronto, invited to participate as a delegate, I wanted my brain powered up and ready to rock. And you know what does it? A green juice breakfast and a smoothie brunch.
I am talking about the power that fuels me when I Smoothie on Up and Juice It On Down.
Now, I am not one to encourage others to make your smoothies. No way jose.
I feel like having someone else make your smoothie for you is a bit like having your eye doctor try and put your glasses back on your face- they're always kind of crooked, or flopping your ear over- or not quite right.
I look at a smoothie and a juice as a way to concoct the most perfectly perfect multi-vitamin nutritional steam train that can destroy any bad guys in its path and elevate you to the optimal level. No one knows what your body needs better than you. You know what I'm saying.
There are three key things I look for in the smoothies and juices that I create,
  1. They have to be delicious!
  2. They have to contain a healthy balance of local/seasonal fresh produce and superfoods and superherbs for extra power.
  3. They must be low glycemic otherwise I'll be jonesing for a muffin an hour later.
Every drink I make for myself is slightly different, each day- depending on what time of day I'm drinking it and also what I am needing on that day.  This is where the powers come in and this is where most people often need a little help.
We are here for you!
This coming Tuesday and next Sunday, we are offering two Awesome Town workshops all about creating the most delicious medicine there ever was. I highly recommend attending both so you can get both the herbal component and the food component into your repertoire.
I will offer details about those gems in a moment. First I want to share with you a couple of my all time steam train power house smoothies and juice recipes.

6 leaves of romaine lettuce
5 inches of cucumber
2 dried dates (soaked if possible)
1 cup watermelon
1 Tbs hemp seeds
½ Tbs ginger
pinch of cayenne
1 Tbs goji berries
5 drops of Ocean’s Alive
1 tsp MSM
1 Tbs prepared Irish Moss
2 tsp buffered vitamin C powder
1 cup ice
2 cups water or chilled Minty Igloo Nourish tea

- Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth

Green Power Cancer Kicker Juice

1 cucumber
5 stalks celery
1 broccoli stock
2 kale leaves
2 cups parsley
1/2 lemon

You might notice something with that smoothie recipe up there. Right- I have added in some of my daily supplements of vitamins, minerals and herbs. A little trick for you!  Just wait until you see what we'll be blending up for you next week. I am working on getting some online workshops together for all you who live in a land far, far away- but until then, I think you should join us next week!

Simple concept that everyone knows but when I started drinking smoothies I didn't - you can hide stuff you don't like it them! Oh, and I just got myself a Vitamix (thanks for telling me about the deal Meghan) and I am so exciting to use it and hide more things in there!

Oh how I wish I went through this to help prevent the jet lag. It has taken quite a toll! The Peaceful Spirit supplement sounds helpful, recommendations on how to take it?

I'd been making green smoothies for quite a while now but just lately I started experimenting. A simple blend of pears in raw whey is surprisingly terrific.

I just made the hydration station smoothie: YUMMMY. I used peppermint essential oil instead of peppermint tea and its so refreshing. A great wake up call for this morning. Can't wait for Tuesday's and Saturday's classes :)
