Methylsulfonylmethane…Um, I mean MSM Power!

 

Where did I find this?: I thought I might never be able to find plant-derived, non-synthetic MSM (stands for Methylsulfonylmethane) crystals, but I did.  Didn't find this one at a tradeshow, or at the health store- found it all on my own, with a little research being done in the process when I was working on growing my hair and nails back after they were falling out and chipping off (respectively) when I was healing from Crohn's.

Why I Love It: Our bodies absolutely need sulfur, as it is stored in every one of our cells. Sulfur is key to maintaing healthy joints, nail, skin and hair.  I guess this means it makes you a little prettier and loosens your joints up so you can add a wiggle to your walk too. I swear- my hair has never been shinier and seems to grow crazy fast. The specific one that I use is the only one I have found that is 100% vegan so that's cool too.

Why You Will Love It: MSM certainly isn't the tastiest of superfoods- but you won't even notice it if you sneak it into salad dressings, soups (post cooking) or smoothies.  It is a simple way to get very important nutrients into your body to promote overall health.

Why You Need It: If you suffer from arthritis, constipation, heartburn, ulcers, migraines- well, pretty well the whole kit and kaboodle- MSM is proven to reduce all the accompanying symptoms of the aforementioned, all while prettying up your skin, hair and nails. Win win!

    I'm always a bit hesitant about taking supplements because I feel like "normal" food should supply us with everything I need. Shinier hair sounds amazing, though ;) I've always had problems with brittle, thin hair and would love to give it some boost, not to speak of headaches it could reduce. Can you tell us something about how to take them, how long it took to show an effect and - if possible - which additional food could enhance the effect the MSM crystals have?
  2. I notice the taste of MSM in my smoothies big time, but not when I just mix it in water, weird right? I love mixing it in water with some spirulina and a little stevia!

    Hi Meghan, I've suffering from stomach ulcers and gastritis. How would I take MSM for these issues? Would you be able to do a post on healing these conditions?

      Hi Christina, Thanks for your note and congrats on working on healing! It takes much bravery to take this path. MSM can be taken mixed into shakes or in supplement form. I don't typically post about specific health conditions as there is no one perfect approach for everyone. Cabbage juice can be intensely healing for stomach ulcers and you also may want to be checked for H. Pylori.

    Hi! Omica has stopped producing their line of MSM products. Are there other brands you would recommend?

    I have been struggling to find an MSM powder that is comparable to the Omica brand. Does anyone have any suggestions? I could really use the help!! Thanks
