Holiday Gift Guide Meghan Telpner

Every year, it’s the same old, same old — a pair of festive socks, the latest electronic gizmo (you still using what you got a year ago?), a picture frame with the gift receipt, sweet (processed, junk-filled) treats, and other stuff that’s fun to open but that’s about it. We just don’t need more stuff. We are stuffed out– overstuffed, if you will.

Share the gift of healthy living with your nearest and dearest!

If you’re stumped on how to share your healthy living passion with your friends and family and perhaps want to inspire instead of scare away, fear not — our healthy holiday gift guide can help. Here are my top UnDiet-approved gifts that are guaranteed to thrill even your most stubborn loved ones.

  • A week of meal delivery.

Green Zebra Kitchen

How does a week of easy-peasy healthy eating sound? If you live in the Toronto area, Green Zebra Kitchen offers unprocessed, gluten-free, organic, vegan meals delivered right to your door. This is my personal favourite and I enjoyed their goodies for a full month before I left for LA. A true lifesaver and it has become my gift of choice not just for the holidays, but also for all of my friends having babies. Most major cities now have meal delivery services and if yours doesn’t, provide it yourself! Imagine a week where you get to do all the cooking for those you love most?

  • A private yoga class.

Whether your giftee is a total beginner or an experienced yogi, a private yoga class is a luxurious way to de-stress and get fit after the holidays. Or even better- let their practice follow them wherever they go by getting them a one-month (or 6-month) membership to YogaGlo so they can practice anytime, anywhere!

  • Real Beauty Care.

Living Libations product or gift voucher. Everyone is always happy to open a box of this joy. I’m a huge fan of Living Libations, and it’s never too soon to help your friends and relatives toss the lead, sulfates and artificial-whatchamacallits from their makeup bags. Might we suggest a Winter Beauty Kit or something sultry to offer kisses of thanks?

  • A tray of the best treats ever.

Chia Pumpkin Muffins

Everyone loves homemade treats. This is a rule. Your friends and fam will be thrilled to receive goodies that are both healthy and delicious. Try baking up some Chia Pumpkin Muffins, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies or Sweet Potato Brownies. Just remember you have to share!

  • A gift basket packed with superfoods.

Having trouble convincing your routine-loving family members to head to the health food store to try out new superfoods? Creating a personalized gift basket filled with superpowered goodies is a great way to help them start 2014 off on the right foot. And if you need extra encouragement, try the superfoods along with a Green Smoothie Cleanse book, and a Glass Straw.

  • A power blender.

Meghan Telpner Blendtec

Yes- this is of the higher end gift giving variety, but a great thing for you and all your siblings to chip in on, or to ask for donations towards this for yourself. I can not stress enough how truly worth the investment this is. Of all the gizmos, gadgets, and superfoods, a high powered blender can truly transform the way we eat. This is a gift that gives and gives and gives. There’s nothing like an ultra-powerful blender to get your loved ones smoothie-ing their way to amazing health. The Vitamix and the Blendtec are both great options.

  • Gift Certificates.

Gift Certificate Meghan Telpner

It’s true that companies depend on customers not using their gift certificates, so let’s not let that happen. Gift certificates are great because it let’s people really choose what they want. Or, if the recipient is saving up for something big (say the Culinary Nutrition Expert program), everyone can buy gift vouchers for the same place making a sweet dent in something the giftee really, really wants. My top spots to get gift certificates include Green Zebra, Book Stores, Outdoor/Gear stores, spas, kitchen stores and of course, right here!

  • Time.

In this epidemically busy world we now live in, time could be the very best gift of all. Give yourself over to someone you love, someone you haven’t seen in ages, someone you want to get to know more, and be together. Be tourists in your city, catch a matinee and tea, go for a long walk, make dinner together. Time keeps on ticking… spend it wisely!

  • UnDiet, of course!

If your friends and family still haven’t gotten their very own copy of UnDiet: Eat Your Way to Vibrant Health, it may be time to pick up a book (or five) and share the love.

What’s your favourite way to share the healthy living spirit around the holidays?
