  1. I liked your sauna blog item. Based upon 20 years of sauna experience I would add the following. The only way to know about EMF levels is to meter measure. This can vary considerably from model to model and even within models. To produce the best sweat and cleanse deeper a series of quick showers in between time in the sauna will accelerate detox. Keep in mind also that some water soluble nutrients are also sweated out so those should be replaced. In my case I utilize a series of body coatings which although a bit messy helps complete the circle of cleanse and nourish.

  2. Thoughts about near infrared saunas? Heard they penetrate deeper? Thoughts on near vs far infrared? We’re ready to purchase!

  3. Oh, the sauna is wonderful! We have electric sauna for two people (we did it a long time ago). I think infrared wins in many ways, but we will not alter it yet :)

  4. Looking to purchase an infrared sauna but am finding it difficult to get accurate answers re EMF emissions. I could not open the link in your post which goes to the sauna you purchased. I am guessing it is a SaunaRay. Do you know if there Is there anything similar on the market?

  6. Okay Meghan…… you opened up a can of worms. HELP!!! Please please please could you just suggest a good reliable infrared sauna. I really want to purchase one but…..HELP

  7. Can you share where you bought your infrared sauna? We are looking at purchasing one and my priority is to make as safe and beneficial as possible. Therefore, quality none toxic wood, no glue etc.
    Thanks in advance.

  8. Great article, Meghan. What are your thoughts on the small portable infrared saunas as a way to start. We don’t really have room for a bigger one right now.

  9. Great article Meghan! Sauna therapy is an age-old tradition which has proven benefits for our overall health. Daily infrared sauna sessions can also help in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, with better quality sleep and inflammation lowering properties. Sauna can substantially encourage neurogenesis and better immune system. But, yes like all practises the advice of a health specialist has to be sought out. I agree with you that saunas are not recommended during pregnancy, as higher body temperature is said to be bad for fetal health.

  10. Thank you for writing this lovely article Meghan! I feel knowing your heat sensitivity is vital when using an infrared sauna. For those with adrenal suppression, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus, or heart conditions, it is best to keep the sessions short.

  11. Hi
I don’t have room for a wooden sauna but recently bought an infra red sauna blanket as like everyone else missing sauna and swimming so much as in Lockdown . So glad I bought it just 4 more weeks until a swim but this has really helped . Feel a lot more comfy and skin feels better .

  12. Daily IR sauna sessions were so incredibly helpful to me in treating persistent Lyme! When I realized how much sauna sessions, driving into town for them, etc, was going to set me back financially, as well as time and effort-wise, I took the plunge and bought one, rationalizing that it was going to last us our lifetime, and not only would I benefit from it, but my husband would as well. I got mine from Radiant Health Saunas – the owner, Randy Gomm, has so much knowledge to share, is so incredibly helpful & personable, and his customer service is just fabulous. I have no financial interest in the company whatsoever; I’m just a super happy customer. He is in BC and got into that business (previously a firefighter) due to his own work-related health issues. His units contain no glue or varnishes, emit zero VOCs, and are very, very low EMF and EMR. I got a 3 person unit and could not be happier with it, truly. I have zero regrets about having bought one, and I love knowing that IR sauna is great for so many aspects of our health, not just the Lyme.

  13. Hello, any thoughts on infrared blankets? I have seen infrared ‘sleeping bag’-like contraptions sold online (brands like Heat Healer or Higher Dose) which take less space and are not as costly.

  14. Hi Meghan,
Would you be able to share your thoughts on using a wood fired (well ventilated) outdoor cedar barrel sauna vs indoor infrared? Have you tried wood fired and how does it compare to your experience using infrared?
